While individuals with disabilities enjoy The Arc’s recreation offerings, their parents and caregivers benefit from time away from caregiving. The Arc of Chester County offers a variety of one-on-one and group respite options. The hallmark of community-based group respite programs is scheduling consistency. Programs are offered on consistent days of the month to make planning easier for parents and caregivers. Group respite programming is available to children age seven and up and adults. Flexible one-on-one respite accommodates families for a minimum of four hours daily to overnight.

All The Arc’s respite services are provided by paid staff. The Arc does not seek volunteer families or individuals to take in respite participants. All staff employed by The Arc are trained. They also have child abuse, drug, and criminal history clearances. Staff are on-call and can accommodate most needs for emergency respite. Respite services are available to individuals with funding through the Chester County Department of Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
