It is hard to believe that four years has passed since I joined The Arc of Chester County as the Executive Director. In the past four years we have accomplished many things yet at the same time we have faced much adversity because of the chronic underfunding to government funded services for individuals with disabilities and their families. In addition, there have been a significant number of changes occurring in the human services systems causing additional stressors for those we support and love. Through all the challenges and adversity The Arc of Chester County has remained focused on fulfilling our mission, “To advocate, educate, and provide services to empower individuals with disabilities and their families to enhance the quality of their lives.”
We are incredibly grateful for the support of our dedicated staff, board of directors, general membership and our many loyal community partners. This un-wavering support was evidenced by our most recent fund raising/friend raising event held on June 12, 2016. The Arc of Chester County Achievement Run/Walk and Fun day had over 400 people in attendance. There were 43 local businesses and community partners that sponsored the event, with CTDI being our Title Sponsor for the second year in a row!! We also had the help of over 60 volunteers that made the event a huge success. It was amazing to see so many generous and caring people all come together to help raise awareness about the issues facing individuals with disabilities and their families while helping to raise the much needed funds that benefit those we provider supports and services to.
Then on June 15, 2016 we had the opportunity to publicly thank a number of our loyal partners during our annual meeting. Their ongoing and loyal support has allowed us to remain focused on our mission and helps us to continue the great work that began 64 years ago by our early founders. During late summer and through the early weeks of fall we have been blessed by the support of several large volunteer groups (Vanguard, West Chester SOAR students, Immaculata students and Villanova students). The volunteers helped us with so many projects that would otherwise take our resources and focus away from the provision of quality services and our ability to continue our advocacy efforts for individuals of all abilities and their families living in our community.
As we enter the end of the calendar year there is much work to be done to ensure equal access to services and supports for everyone in our community. I welcome you to view our website for how you can get involved and support The Arc of Chester County. Thank you so much for making such a difference in the lives of others in our community!
